Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Rhinoplasty (Nasal Reconstruction) can be performed for either improved nasal breathing, improved aesthetics, or a combination of the two.

Nasal Airway Obstruction (difficulty breathing): Nasal breathing may be impaired by a variety of mechanisms. A deviated (twisted) nasal septum from either genetics or a nasal fracture may cause decreased airflow/difficulty breathing from one or both sides of the nose.  Enlargement of the inferior turbinates also will cause significant nasal airway obstruction.  Turbinates are structures located within the nose that humidify and direct airflow. Chronic allergies (chronic rhinitis) and/or a  deviated nasal septum may cause enlargement of the inferior turbinates located on the floor of the nasal cavity which can significantly obstruct nasal breathing. Removal of the deviated portion of the nasal septum and/or removal of the nasal turbinates allows for greater nasal airflow and dramatically improved breathing.

Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Nasal Surgery can be performed to change the overall shape of the nose. Nasal tips can be narrowed, humps can be reduced and crooked noses can be straightened.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) is routinely performed for both functional and cosmetic reasons. With age, the elasticity and muscle mass of the eyelids begins to decrease and the effects of gravity are magnified. Blepharoplasty involves the removal of excessive skin in either the upper or lower lids in order to open the eyes and to give the eyes a more rounded, youthful appearance. Incisions are placed in natural skin creases in order to minimize any potential scarring. For patients with excessive upper lid skin, blepharoplasty will actually increase peripheral vision and is often recommended by ophthalmologists.

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift) is performed in order to remove wrinkles in the forehead and to elevate the brow to give a less tired and more youthful appearance.

Brow lifts are typically performed endoscopically in order to minimize recovery time and maximize results.

Otoplasty (Ear Tuck) is performed on individuals with excessively prominent ears. Otoplasty (Ear Tuck) may also change the size and shape of the ears and are routinely performed at a young age (4-7 years old) before children begin school. However, otoplasties are also frequently performed on adults for cosmetic reasons or after accidents requiring ear reconstruction.

Rhytidectomy (Face Lift) alleviates numerous aspects of the aging face. A face lift will dramatically decrease the laxity of the facial skin caused by the aging effects of muscle loss, loss of elasticity of the skin and the effects of gravity. Face lifts also decrease wrinkles, jowling and gives the face a tighter and more youthful appearance. Face lifts are commonly performed with a neck lift in order to tighten the neck skin and alleviate neck banding.

Genioplasty (Chin Implant or Reduction) is performed in order to increase or decrease the size and shape of the chin. Genioplasties are also performed in order to correct asymmetries in the lower third of the face and in patients with congenital and acquired bone and soft tissue defects.

Facial Implants (Cheekbone, Chin, Angle of Mandible, etc…) are performed for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. Many individuals desire the high cheekbone look and can often achieve their results with a silicone cheek implant. Others wish to add volume to an aging face with the application of facial implants. Many, but not all, facial implants are made of silicone and are approved by the FDA for use in the maxillofacial skeleton.

Liposuction (Fat Removal) is performed usually in the chin and neck region. Liposuction removes excessive fatty tissue and redefines the neck and chin in order to give a more youthful appearance.
